Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has been arrested and charged in connection with Liberia’s ongoing investigation into an alleged US$336 million cocaine trafficking network. Justice Minister says Taylor faces multiple narcotics-related and money laundering charges, while three foreign nationals have been charged in absentia and former NSA Deputy Director Joseph Gerald Smith has been summoned for questioning.

Montserrado County Representative Taa Wongbe has questioned the Boakai-Koung administration’s handling of Liberia’s fight against illicit drugs, saying major drug seizures are being undermined by growing public distrust and unanswered allegations surrounding the government’s security institutions.
