Pregnant Women in Liberia experience mistreatment during childbirth in healthcare facilities.
Younger, less dedicated women are mostly found to be at risk of mistreatment during child birth. These women undergo physical and verbal abuse, stigmatization and discrimination, medical procedures conducted without their consent, use of force during procedures, and abandonment or neglect by health care workers.
The World Health Organization (WHO) the guidelines promote respectful maternity care for all women, which is a care that maintains dignity, privacy and confidentiality, ensures freedom from harm and mistreatment, and enables informed choice and continuous support during labour and childbirth.
Gossip Liberia want to condemn and call upon health facilities Doctors, nurses, midwiferies operating in Liberia to collaborate and ensure that mistreatment of pregnant women during childbirth is consistently identified and reported, and that locally appropriate measures are implemented to eradicate this public health disaster.
To tackle these problems during childbirth,we recommend that, women be allowed to have a companion of their choice with them throughout labour and childbirth.
